(Class of 2020)

Description of Safety Town
Safety Town is a week-long program for kids ages 5-6 to learn about many types of safety, including poison safety, fire safety, traffic safety, water safety and more, while completing crafts, coloring and having a good time. To begin, there are 9 groups, each containing 18 kids. The program lasts 3 hours each day for a week in June, including two sessions: One in the morning and another in the afternoon. This year (2019) in Hilliard, the program began on June 10 and lasted for 5 days until June 14 at the usual location: Norwich Elementary School. This would be my 5th year volunteering in the program and my 1st year documenting the experience.
I chose Safety Town as my capstone experience because I enjoy interacting with younger kids and having a good time while teaching and being with them. I enjoyed volunteering in Safety Town the previous 4 years so I knew this would be the perfect way to serve the community over the summer while having a good time doing it. |

As a note, volunteers like me were not allowed to take pictures of the kids. However, I was able to take some pictures of the activities, some taken in poor quality with an older phone.
